The Non-Novice Learner pathway is for riders who have previously held a full Australian motorcycle licence that has expired, been cancelled, or is otherwise no longer current. This pathway is not for those who have never held a full motorcycle licence anywhere in the world — those riders must apply as a novice motorcycle learner.
Key points:
-
The NNL pathway is for previously held full Australian licences only.
-
Day 2 training is not required to obtain a NNL.
-
Once issued a NNL, you must wait 28 days before booking your Pre-Provisional Assessment.
-
After completing the Pre-Provisional Assessment, take your Certificate of Competence (COC) to Service Tasmania to be issued your full motorcycle licence.
For Overseas Licence Holders:
-
If you hold a current (full or provisional) overseas motorcycle licence from a non-recognised country or have no experienced driver recognition, you can also apply for a NNL.
-
The process is the same — you must wait 28 days after getting your NNL before booking and completing the Pre-Provisional Assessment.
-
Once you’ve passed, take your COC to Service Tasmania to be issued an equivalent licence (provisional or full, depending on your overseas licence class).
-
If your overseas licence is expired, you must start the motorcycle licensing process from the beginning.
Steps to get your NNL in Tasmania:
-
Be at least 16 years and 6 months old.
-
Study the Tasmanian Road Rules and pass the Motorcycle Road Rules Test at Service Tasmania.
-
Complete your application for a Non-Novice Learner Motorcycle Licence at Service Tasmania.
-
Wait 28 days after receiving your NNL.
-
Book and complete your Pre-Provisional Assessment with Stay Upright.
-
Take your COC (and ID) to Service Tasmania and pay the required fee to be issued your licence.
