No. You only need the QRide Unrestricted (R) course if you wish to ride an unrestricted (non-LAMS) motorcycle in Queensland. After holding your RE licence for two years you automatically receive an R-class Learner Permit, but you must complete and pass the R course before upgrading to a full open licence.
