To Whom It May Concern,
I just wanted to take a moment to write to you to express my thanks for the extra efforts your organisation and it's amazing team gave in both the Learner and Provisional Bike Riding course(s) that I recently attended.
It is people like you all (working together as such a dynamic team) who make each student partaking in the sessions such a positive and knowledgeable experience only making the streets a safer and better place to be whilst on a bike and sharing the road with a bike rider.
Simply by taking the extra time it takes to ensure that all are comfortable with the content and understand it well. I think I can safely say, you(instructor(s)) were well received by all!
Through your patience and efforts, allowed me to reach my life long dream of learning to ride a bike… safely and confidently.
Your team of instructors stand head and shoulders above others in the facilitation field and I appreciate the time you all took to care. Once again, thank you for an outstanding job!
Sincerely,
Karen |

Just a short note to thank you for the experience of a lifetime. On Sat 14th & sat 15th June, my husband and I attended our Q ride course here in Townsville. Jason was our instructor and just wanted to let you know what a fantastic job he did.
I left that course with a complete new outlook regarding motorbike riding and not just when I ride my bike, but also when I drive my car.
Could you please forward my personal thanks to Jason and let him know how much I appreciated what he taught me, especially with the hill start.
Thanks heaps,
Helen & Graeme |

Hi,
I recently completed the Advanced 1 Skills Development Course 30th May 2008, and would like to thank all the guys that assisted us on the day.
The care and attention to each person was great, I have not had a lot of experience and there were many that had been riding for over 20 years, so to cater for all the varying levels of riding confidence would have been difficult but they managed to achieve this with great easy, at no time was I forced to go beyond my comfort level, however the way the course was structured I felt more confident with each exercise and found myself wanting to improve and trust the process.
I learnt skills that have already made a tremendous difference to my riding and enjoyment of riding. I have purchased a large bike Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 and was thinking that I may have bitten off more than I could chew, but now I know that the bike is only a part of the process, it is my attitude towards riding, and skill development that will allow me to handle the bike in different circumstances. I just can’t wait to be on the bike and further develop my skills on my own and with your assistance via the available training.
Again, thank you to all the great guys here is to staying UP RIGHT.
Cheers

Hey Guys, just wanted to let you know I had a terrific time and came away with lots of new techniques that I've since put into practice on a daily basis, eg keeping relaxed posture, bent elbows, front rear gear, hugging the tank with my knees (which instantly relaxes the arms), not letting my knees flap out like chicken wings when I'm turning, trailing throttle control through the corner etc. I'm not great and I don't always remember these things instinctively, but it's stuff that I never really thought about in my previous motocycling life, 25 odd years ago. Thinking about all these things and confidently putting them into practice, has made my motorcycling experience all the more rewarding and enjoyable. Thanks once again to all the instructors for a great day, I'm looking forward to Advanced 11 Braking and Cornering!
I did the Advanced Course 1 at Oran Park on Monday 28th April, my photo's on the first page, top row, second from the left, on my Monster 900ie.
Message for the instructor STEVE: Do you still have the footage you took from our laps? If so, I'd love to check it out. If not, hopefully I'll see you in August at Advanced Braking & Cornering. Many thanks for your excellent instruction on the day!
Thanks,
Will |

I’ve just completed, on 14 March 2008, your intermediate course at Oran Park. I’d like to say how much I enjoyed the day and I would like to thank Wayne, Elaine and Karen for all their very helpful advice. I didn’t think I had so many bad habits! I now feel more confident and safer on the road after their guidance.
I look forward to enrolling in the advanced course in the next few months.

I participated in the Advanced Course conducted at Mount Cotton on Saturday 23 February 2008. I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the instructors for a great day and also give a bit of a plug for the program.
I expect that like many participants, I went into the course with a reasonable amount of motorcycle experience but was looking for an opportunity to 'take the next step' and advance in skill, confidence and enjoyment.
I wish to pass on my thanks to Stay Upright. Whilst I had spoken at length about what to expect from the course from previous participants, I must say that the course exceeded my expectations.
I can say that the course was fantastic. It was a day that was great fun all round, with a great bunch of people and learning about a subject everyone was passionate about. A pretty good mix really!
For me personally, the focus on rider posture was the aspect that has had the greatest impact upon my riding. On the ride home from the course, I experimented with both how I usually rode and the posture that I had been taught to ride through the program. The difference was remarkable. My previous style was functional and comfortable. However, the posture and style taught through the program was confidence inspiring and facilitated a very real control of the motorcycle.
There is no substitute for having real as opposed to perceived control of a vehicle. Having previously participated in extensive driver training including Mercedes driver training, professional Police Driver Training (10 day) and 4WD training I would also say that there is no substitute for professional rider/driver training.
Of all the training I have done previously, Stay Upright was equal to the best and first among equals.
I would like to thank the instructional team - Craig, Ray and Blue, all of whom possess the rare ability to not only be great riders but also to be able to pass their knowledge on in a manner that allowed the student to learn and increase their confidence.
One final note, it would easy on any course such as this for individual participant's ego to dominate, particularly where there are clear differences in skill. This simply did not occur. I got the impression that each participate felt worthy and the overall focus was on encouraging and raising skill levels.
Great program guys!. I look forward to completing the Advanced 2 - Cornering and Braking course later this year.

To the Management Team at Stay Upright Motorcycle Techniques,
I recently attended the 2 day course at Hoppers Crossing and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed my experience.
I've had little riding experience prior to attending the course for my Learner's Permit and was quite nervous, however the skills and training I received in those 2 days were most impressive. Gary and John were the instructors I had for my course and I found their knowledge and approach
to riding skills very professional. Their attention to detail was great, they were firm but pleasant in their approach and they provided great encouragement which made the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable. I was amazed with what I learnt in 2 days and have walked away with more confidence ? and I'm very pleased I passed my Learner's test!
I have found all your staff and facilities to be most professional and I am recommending Stay Upright to my friends who are wanting to obtain their Learner's. I look forward to coming back for all my motorcycle training at Stay Upright.
Thankyou for a wonderful experience.
Best Regards,
Anthony |

G'Day, just completed my MOST test today and wanted to pass on my gratitude for a day where I learnt a great deal and as always thoroughly appreciated the professionalism and dedication from the crew at Clyde.
In particular, the instructor Andrew was excellent and had a lot of very useful things to pass on and provided a unique day of challenges and learning.
Of course, I would never had passed if it hadn't been for the practise sessions on Friday nights with Les - a very funny, friendly and most importantly talented instructor who helped me immensely (I am sure the others in the course would say the same).
Thanks very much Stay Upright, I look forward to doing more courses with you to improve my skills in the future.
Kind regards,

Hi there,
Just a short note with some feed back on my recent course. Had a fabulous day, learnt heaps with some great hints at correcting my posture and much much more. Karen is an asset to your team of instructors. The day proved to me that practice doesn’t make perfect if you’re going about it the wrong way. Bad habits are so hard to break, friends mean well but can often steer you in the wrong direction. Fortunately I haven’t been riding long so it won’t be so difficult to apply what I was taught.
Again many thanks. Looking forward to doing the Advanced course in 2008.

I have now participated in 7 Stay Upright courses over the last 2 years.
3 advanced, 3 cornering and braking and 1 road-skils. The most recent last weekend at Symmons Plains.
I have learned so much over that time I thought it would be appropriate to write in and let you all know how much I appreciate the people that deliver your programs.
I am a professional peak performance coach and have worked with many of Australia's top athletes as well as having run hundreds of workshops and seminars for thousands of people. I found Wayne Clark to be inspirational, a great bloke and the ultimate professional. It is not often you find a presenter that has the skills to demonstrate, communicate and entertain all in one person.
The content of the course is outstanding and the support crew that help run the day's are excellent. Special mention must be made of Brendon (who does an awesome job of keeping us up to date with up-coming events and is also a top fella), Darren and Mel. They all do a sensational job, they are incredibly supportive, fountains of knowledge and above all fun to be around.
Please pass on my thoughts, thanks and appreciation to your team.
I will continue to attend your courses as you never know it all.
All good things,

Hi, attended the GS course on the 26/10 in Werribee, Victoria a couple of weeks ago and have got to commend the instructors. Great guys, very measured and calm. Did have some off-road experience but still learnt a lot. Looking forward to seeing the pics but seems like you don't update the photo gallery very often.

I attended the Intermediate Skills Course held at the Go-Cart track at Wilberforce on Tuesday 30th October, 2007.
The day was very enjoyable, challenging and informative, identifying a myriad of bad habits I had picked up whilst
riding over the years. Wayne, Karen and Elaine the instructors on the day were always encouraging and positive
in attempting to correct and guide a silly old f…t like me. At 64 and with over 30 years of riding regularly behind me,
with no major offs, the day reinforced and reminded me of what I already knew – my skill on a motorcycle is very limited,
and so I must rely on observation and caution to keep me upright, out of harms way and free of injury whilst riding on the road.
Credit for my surviving the joys and perils of motorcycling so far is no doubt due in part to the information, skills and
attitude I gained at a Stay Upright Course held on a wet day at Oran Park soon after your organisation began operating.
Many thanks once again to the instructors for their patience.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day and found it of great benefit.

I attended your Advanced Skills course at Oran Park on Oct 29th 2007. This was preceded by a seminar. I knew the course was going to be excellent after I attended the seminar which was run by Wayne. He is a no-nonsense instructor who knows his subject, knows how to explain his subject and most importantly knows how to relate to people.
The practical day at Oran Park run by Wayne, Simon and Terry exceeded all of my expectations. These guys know their stuff and know how to impart that knowledge to motorcyclists of all ages and all levels of experience. I compliment you on the quality of your training and on your choice of instructors. I will be recommending your courses to my motorcycling friends and I will be enrolling in another of your courses.
Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to Wayne, Simon and Terry.

I attended the Advanced skills day on 29th oct at Oran Park, I completed this course to gain the confidence I lost after coming off a little while ago and I would have to say that the course, the instructors Simon, Wayne, Terry were not only Professional but Entertaining, very informative and skilful in delivering what was a fantastic day as well as extremely educational, and fun. I didn't realise that the way I was riding was so wrong but after the day had ended I can honestly say that what I learnt can and has helped me to gain the confidence that I was lacking. I will be coming back to do the cornering and braking course asap.
Thanks again,

I have to confess that it is not often that I feel compelled to write letters of appreciation, but having completed the Learner's course at your Clyde centre yesterday it was something I felt obliged to do. I had the very good fortune to have Jethro as my instructor and while I may be new to motorcycles, I've been a training professional now for nearly 10 years. In all my experience in both training and employing trainers, Jethro rates as one of the best skills based trainers I have ever seen in action.
Jethro took the syllabus and made it a really tangible practical thing, which in skills based training is often the most difficult aspect. He managed the different experience levels and learning speeds in the class really well and was outstanding when need required him to give one on one instruction. He also managed a great balance between instructional feedback and encouragement so you always had a really good sense of how you were going. Overall it was a really positive experience, that I not only learnt a great deal from but also really enjoyed.
If Jethro is representative of the calibre of instructors that you have, I will absolutely be coming back to partake in the practice sessions and the additional courses.
Thanks for the great experience,
Regards,

Just wanted to say thaaaaaaaaaaaank you to all the team at Clyde. Having been quite a few years since I had my bike licence and being in the middle of summer had a sudden itch again to ride again. I attended the Learners Course in late January, then a few practice courses with Les to which I went on to the Provisional Course and MOST test in March. All of the courses were commendably highly structured, informative and most of all fun.
I hope to always recall the invaluable lessons learnt whilst attending these courses especially the Practice course. There being a few others on the the Friday Night Practice Course I thought it would be nice to just practice before the MOST test I was to have the next Monday morning (ooooooh the pressure). However was blown away at the quality time the instructor spent with each student to provide feedback as an individual and and as a group. As a result I was able to recognise bad riding habits that I had built up from riding 10 years ago and fix them; and yes I passed my test. Wooo hoo.
Thanks once more and as a result I plan to attend in the future the Intermediate, Advanced, Braking and Cornering Course. On talking to fellow riders (inclusive of those who hit the track) that have attended these courses, there is nothing but a huge amount of praise at the benefit of attending them. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Kindest regards,
Ameera

Several weeks ago I undertook my L's course with Stay Upright at Sydney's Clyde centre. I had no previous riding experience and consequently was unsure of what to expect from your 2 day course.
After heading out onto the tarmac I first lacked confidence on 2 wheels but my instructor, Brad, was encouraging and I soon got the hang of it. Every member of my class class agreed that his good nature and great sense of humor made him a fantastic teacher. Consequently, I passed my L's test, headed straight to the RTA, and have been riding a motorcycle ever since.
Brad instills both the confidence and awareness needed to send capable riders out onto the roads, making him an asset to your company.

I recently attended the Advanced skills day on 30th July 2007 at Oran Park,Being a mature aged Ducati rider I wondered what could be achieved by attending after being given this opportunity as a gift from my children.
I would have to say that the course and the instructors Matt, Wayne, Terry and a young lady who's name escapes me at the present were not only Professional but Entertaining, courteous and above all very informative and skilful in delivering what was a great day as well as extremely educational, everything was above my highest expectations even down to the catering of a nutritional tasty lunch. They all opened my eyes up to so many aspects of my riding that can only help me to Stay Upright as they say. Thankyou to all and I will be back and will thoroughly recommend the course to all of my fellow riders.

I would like to express my appreciation to the instructors that were pivotal in the success of my motorcycle license training. First of all Jethro, who I was lucky enough to have as a teacher for my 2 day Learners course at Clyde. He was professional in his approach at what must be an arduous task of teaching 6 or more learners how to ride a motorcycle. He was also very patient and knowledgeable on all aspects of motorcycling fundamentals and safety. Jethro's training was the platform that propelled me towards success with Cassandra, for my pre-provisional training, and Motorcycle Operators Skills Test (MOST) at Botany. Again, she was very professional, friendly, and provided clear instruction to all students in my class throughout the entire 8 hour process. I was over the moon to have passed the test itself at the end of the day, and went to the Motor Registry the next day to upgrade my license.
I will be looking into your other courses with Stay Upright in the coming months, and am sure that I will have a positive experience regardless of who I have instructing me on the day.

in a manner that was ethical & professional.
Thankyou and i will be recommending my friends to your company.

The course was fantastic (content, presentation and demonstration), the track was great (can’t believe it is going!) and the instructors were an absolute wealth of knowledge and great with the feedback – you guys clearly know how to ride! Anyway, I learnt heaps even if I was the slowest on the track and while I have clearly got a long way to go, you guys have steered me in the right direction.
I will recommend the course to anyone who will listen.

My thanks to the team at the Advanced Rider course at Oran Park on Monday, 18th September, 2006. Their professionalism encouragement & expert tuition made for a really wonderful day. I have always been a keen advocate for advanced driver training which I have participated in & totally enjoyed also. Afterwards, I advised my then toddler son (now 14) that he would not be going out on the road until he'd passed advanced driver training at a reasonable level. He's already looking forward to it. It's a pity that both driver & rider advanced courses are not compulsory. If everyone new what fun they would have learning potentially life saving strategies & techniques, I'm sure they would all be happy to participate. And we'd all be a lot safer. Perhaps the fun factor should be advertised by the government bodies. Anyone who didn't enjoy it & learn from it, would probably prove to be an inappropiate candidate for a licence to drive or ride.
I have only had a bike licence for not quite a year & on Monday was riding this particular bike for only the fourth time, having come off a little 250. The day was so good that I totally fell in love with my beautiful Monster 620. I have a long way to go but the team bought me a long way on Monday.
Thanks again & hope to catch up on future courses.

Christine |

Hi,
I am sending you this e-mail to express my appreciation & tell you guys about one of the best days I’ve ever had riding my motorcycle…. I attended the Stay Upright Braking & Cornering Course held at Oran Park last Friday the 18/8/06….. From the start of the day I was made to feel welcome by the instructors, Clarkey, Matt, Wayne & Elaine…. After a quick coffee & a short talk about what the day would entail we hit the track…. From the outset all instruction given by the guys was easy to understand & very helpful…. With 17 students to instruct, all of different riding capabilities & experience, no one was made to feel left out…. Each person received an individual assessment on their riding style & how to make improvements to make you a better & safer rider….. Nothing was a hassle & no question to silly….. I would especially like to thank Clarkey & Matt as those are the two guys I spent most of the day with….. I started the day with quiet a few things to sort out & by the end of the day felt a lot more comfortable & a lot safer….. I cannot thank you guys enough & will be recommending your courses to all my friends who ride bikes….. I look forward to attending more of your courses & thank you again for a fantastic experience…..

To all the Sayupright guys,, + gals...
Hey thanks for a great day on Monday - an absolute sensation on bike control, avoidance, speed, steering, mindset etc..
Say many many thanx to the Wayne's, Terry & especially Elaine - who did most of my courses.
This is the most professional training day I have ever experienced - what a sensation - Wayne said it can be the best fun with your pants on - guess what - he is wrong... it is the best.
Just a little note - some F'wit from the R.T.A. or Council decided to put a steel plate in the middle of Woronora Bridge, that sits about 25cm above the road,. I noticed it at about 6.00pm in traffic. The immediate response was left-hand counter - missed the bastard.. Say thanks to the guys for me having a few less bruises and scrapes on the bike..
I mentioned to Terry and Wayne that we do a big skit at Oran Park each year before Christmas. Mostly for Camp Quality, Canteen, Down Syndrome and M.S. + special invitees. Check out the Web Site www.kidsraceday.com.au We have heaps of volunteers, supporters etc, + Dave Scanlan does some bike stunts, the Kobblers come as Santa etc - good day we take about 400 kids for rides in Race Cars, Sports Sedans, Rally Cars, Skid Pans, 4 x 4's etc... Then we feed about 3,000 people..
Maybe you may like to do a display or show some of the more health ones some bits about riding, or do demo bike racing??? Next Date is Sunday 17th December.. Would love to see you there..
Anyway enough of the adds.. - say very special thanks to the Instructors - it was really appreciated. I have a couple of Mates wanting to buy bikes and have told them even though they think they can ride - they must do your course. I will probably join them again...
Doin well and Ta...

On the 24th of June 2006 I attended the Advanced Rider Training course at the awesome Mt Cotton training center. I would just like to send my appreciation to the instructors (Henry, Steve, Dave) for all of their help and encouragement that was given to me during the course. I really liked the way the course was designed for all different experience levels. The one to one training / feedback was very helpful and improved my confidence no end. I can honestly say when I left the course I was a vastly improved rider than when I entered. I now have techniques to practice and a riding plan rather than a lot of guess work. Riding my bike is so much more enjoyable and in the words of Henry I am learning to “replace fear with skill”.
I shall be back for more in the future!

Hello to all Stay Upright staff,
I recently had the opportunity of enjoying a truly brilliant weekend of motorcycling by firstly completing your Advanced course followed by the Cornering & Braking course the next day being the 16th and 17th of June respectively. These two days in addition to the Defensive Riding seminar held on the Friday evening, personally made for an experience which has dramatically changed my overall riding pleasure.
I came away from the experience with a newfound wealth of knowledge which now sees me riding with a level of alertness and hazard identification not previously engaged. I also now have a bag of skills up my sleeve to not only enhance my sport bike riding pleasure, but to call upon in time of need and avert an undesirable situation. I have set to work everything learnt and ride with a new level of confidence that I can safely co exist with other road users.
The instructors were friendly and great to work with, I cannot offer enough praise for their efforts and the value of their personal attention. A tremendous amount of feedback was offered in a positive and encouraging manner and at no time was there pressure to exceed individual limits.
The running of the whole weekend was extremely efficient and with great catering to boot.
To Warwick, Matt, Jason and Liam… Sincere thanks for a memorable experience, your time and the opportunity to tap into your collective knowledge base.
Kind Regards
Chris

I just got home from attending the Stay Upright Advanced Course at Oran Park & wanted to
thank you for the excellent training I received. I am soaking wet after the 3 hour trip home in the
pouring rain and I would do it again tomorrow if I knew I would learn that much again.
Like many of the others there on the day I have been riding for the past 30 odd years with a bit of
a spell in between. Over this time I had picked up a few bad habits & the excellent instructors
soon got me doing things the correct way. I learned so much about improving my riding skills
both in the 3 hr seminar & the 8 hrs on the track.
Using the "systems" taught me how to do things properly, from the emergency braking, which I
have never really done before, to the proper posture & riding positions. Even the low speed
manoeuvring section really helped as this wasn't done when I got my licence & I have never done
anything like this before.
I especially enjoyed learning how to get the bike around corners faster, safer & with more
confidence.
The fact that it was raining really made me concentrate more on getting the instructions right & I
could see the dramatic improvements in my riding. The "one on one" sessions were extremely
beneficial & I feel that me & my Buell are now a team.
Once again, thanks for a great day & I will definitely be doing the Cornering & Braking Course in
the very near future. This was, without a doubt, one of the best investments I have made for my
future.
Regards,
Larry |

Would just like to say a big thanks to all you guys, Enry (well he is a Londoner), Max, Craig & Dave I think ......for a really good couple of days on the Advanced Course 19th & 20th May '06. I learnt more in those couple of days than I have riding on and off since the '60s, coming back to riding after a 12 year layoff was a bit daunting ...........Not Anymore. I'm enjoying my riding (got the big smile) and yes I keep practicing. The whole course was great and well worth the money.
I would recommend the course to any rider, forget the aftermarket goodies get on this course first it could save your life, I found all the instructors to be very professional and the help and feedback from you all was invaluable.
Thanks again

Hi,
I participated in the Advanced riders course at Oran Park on Monday (22nd May).
I would just like to say how enjoyable it was. The day was a 21st birthday gift from work colleagues as I bought my first bike,
a Suzuki GS500, last October. In the 7 or 8 months I have been riding I have learnt a lot through the L and P training but also
simply by experience. This course helped me further develop this knowledge and I am now able to put it towards my daily commuting.
I ride approx 60kms a day to and from work. A big thanks to Wayne, Matt, Elaine and the other instructor, who I apologetically forget his name.
All four gave me a positive feedback and help to make my technique better at some stage during the day.
I would like to know if the photos that were taken throughout the day will be published on the website or anything?
Thanks again.
Matt.

Good morning,
I attended an intermediate rider training course with Wayne at Windsor yesterday (16 May 2006) and would like to congratulate you on this fantastic course.
As part of my job and the Survive the Ride project, I promote your organisation all the time. Until yesterday however, I hadn't attended any tuition other than the learner and provisional course (again with Wayne) at Annangrove.
I think as long time motorcyclists, riders tend not to be aware of what they actually do. This makes it difficult for new riders (such as myself) to learn from them without developing all their bad habits.
Wayne was very detailed (and patient) in all his discussions, explaining exactly what and why things happen the way they do.
As a new rider, my primary concern at the 'licensing' course was to achieve the tasks set. Clearly however, since becomming licensed I have failed to be fully aware of some really useful techniques.
By attending your course, Wayne has been able to explain these techniques and has provided me with a far better understanding of motorcycle operations.
I am sure my riding and cofidence will improve greatly now that I have these things to practice.
I thank you for providing me with the opportunity to participate in this training and will certainly recommend it to others (both personally and through my work as a road safety officer).
Please pass on my special thanks to Wayne. He was brilliant.

Good Afternoon,
Having taken part in the Basic Off-road Skills Course last Saturday along with my wife, I just wanted to take this opportunity to say how much we enjoyed ourselves.
Never having ridden off road before we were both worried that we were going to struggle, but the enthusiasm, professionalism and very clear instruction meant that we were able to fully take part and feel that we were progressing and improving all the time.
The pace of the course was just right for us in that we were being challenged but we never felt that we were being left behind. We were never put in the situation were we felt that we were unable to do something or that we were being forced to do something that we were unhappy with.
We will both be signing up for other Stay Upright courses in the future and if you ever decide to introduce further off-road courses beyond the Basic we will be there like a shot!
Many thanks to the Stay Upright team once again.
Regards
Clive |

Hi Dave |
|
| |
I just completed my 2nd advanced riding course at Wakefield Park on 8 Feb with Canberra HOG. Wayne is a superb instructor. |
|
| |
When I did the course 2 years ago I learned a whole bunch of new skills from him that have kept me upright and alive. This time, Wayne taught me some new tricks (eg front brake feathering) and I had more fun on the track than I've had in many months of road riding. Wayne gives great feedback, not just bullshit, and motivates riders to learn safely. He's one of he best instructors I've seen. I look forward to doing the course again in the next couple of years. |

May i congratulate you on the professionalism of your instructors, in particular Terry, at your Rouse Hill centre. His knowledge and vast experience was demonstrated to me last weekend whilst on course. His ability to communicate and instruct on the various tasks was excellent. His no nonsense approach was refreshing. A real straight shooter. Thanks Terry. |

I participated in the 1 day course on Sunday under the instruction of Dave. I would like to say that I found him to be an excellent instructor and the course in general was great - in fact it exceeded my expectations due to Dave's personality and conduct and I would definitely recommend your business to others in the future. |

Thanks again. |

A big thank you for the seminar and practical day on the weekend. It was a lot of fun. Both Brett and I got a lot out of it. |
|
| |
It was just as much fun the second time round as it was twenty years ago when I did it at Amaroo in N.S.W. |
|

We are going to try and get a larger group together and get along to another Advanced Course later in the year. |

To Whom It May Concern: |
|
Today I completed the Advanced course at Oran Park and have gained and enjoyed so much that I am compelled to give some feedback. |
|
The instructors were excellent. Wayne, Terry, Elaine and ‘some other bloke’ who thinks he can ride! (Ha-ha. Make sure ‘he’ reads this). They were a lot of fun to listen, observe and learn from. Most of the feedback showed what I was doing right but more importantly highlighted how to do it better. (And safer) Even the smallest suggestion for improvement would bring immediate positive results. |
|
One of the most surprising things to learn was how to recognise my own mistakes, then have the knowledge to analyse and rectify these mistakes to minimise their reoccurrence. |
|
The biggest benefit for me was getting to know the bike and myself, with the distinction between ambition and capability. This was highlighted by the emergency stopping exercise. |
|
| It is a great pity that further training such as this, with more emphasis on real road speeds, is not compulsory following the current Learner/Provisional licensing program. |
|
| Once again thanks to the instructors for a wonderful day. |
|

|

During the last two months I attended your Pre -Learners Course and yesterday the Provisional Rider's Licence course .
|
|
When I decided I wanted to get my Rider's Licence -that was my only goal and I thought that having to go through what was effectively three days worth or courses after having ridden bikes before was , frankly, a bit of overkill.
|
|
I was mistaken . Your courses are indeed worthwhile and I have come out of your courses not only with my riders licence - but more importantly a far more educated , aware and humble person. |
|
I had Steve on my pre -learners course and then Terry for my P's course. |
|
Both these men are a credit to your organisation. They are professional and dedicated persons who care about what they do. It became very clear to me that this was not "just a job" to them - both Steve and Terry genuinely cared about our safety and the safety of others on the road. It is the dedication that prompted me to write this email as it is rare to find these days. Congratulation to choosing your staff well. |
|
There is no doubt in my mind that - your courses do save lives. Probably saved mine. |
|
Thank you and I wish you all the success in the future. |
|
Yours sincerely |

G'day, |
|
I thought I would drop you a quick line to let you know I had a great day yesterday at Oran Park.
|
|
I did my previous Advanced courses way back at Amaroo Park in 88 and 1990. Recentlly back on a bike I booked in straight away to do another advanced course. Alot of the old skills were still there. But with the great instruction from your team small adjustments were made and improvements were instantly noticable. |
|
I have just ridden home to Bathurst, the long way of course. With the improvements to my posture and vision techniques I had a great ride with no 'mid corner moments' which were once common. |
|
The one other skill which I thought was a bit weird at first but now use it all the time and can see and feel the benefit is 'dragging ' the rear brake for a few seconds when taking off from a stop. |
|
I will be hopefully lining up for a cornering and braking course soon. |
|
Thanks again. |

I noticed while reading AMCN that Stay Upright has reached 25 years and I felt congratulations were in order. I was lucky enough to attend one of the few courses you and Max ran in New Zealand, at Manfield in 1996, as a rather rusty ‘returning’ rider. Ten years on I am still doing around 30,000 km a year on bikes; my current mount is a ZX-6R that provides transport for the majority of my daily cross-country commuter trips, at 130 to 170 km per day. I still remember to practice emergency braking and the counter-steering swerves periodically. To come to the point, the course I attended at Manfield did more to bolster my confidence and instill good practice than any other road-riding focused motorcycling activity I have participated in. I also enjoy the occasional track ride-day, the general bike handling boosts skills, but much of the technique does not really directly transfer to the road, (not wet, pot-holed, cowshit splattered country ones anyway!).
|
|
| Anyway, thank you, and here’s to the next 25 years of Stay Upright! |

Hi ... |
|
| |
My name is Albie and I completed as well as gaining my Learners at Hoppers 2 weekends ago. |
|
| |
I just wanted to write to you guys and make mention, not only I totally ecstatic at passing my Learners, being the first time ever riding a motorbike, but our Instructors, Steve Bye and Garry Yin were the BEST!! |
|
| |
Their unique style of instructing held us all captivated, and made everything look very easy as well as explaining it well, having us all in stitches, making it so much fun - even when I was stressed or not relaxing, they managed to put a big smile on my face. |
|
| |
I just want to say these gorgeous Guys, Steve and Garry are fantastic and are a credit to Stay Upright!! Well done and spreading the word to friends that this is a fantastic course. |
|
| |
I hope that one day I may be able to ride beside Garry and especially that beautiful Harley that Steve rides .. |

Thanks and a merry christmas to all .... |

Hi there |
|
| |
I have been meaning to email since the recent Stay Upright course at Symmons Plains. I have been recommending the course to anyone I know who has, or is thinking of getting a bike. And to anyone else that will listen!!! |
|
| |
For me, doing the course has expanded my enjoyment of riding. I came along on the day, as a 50 yr old woman, not having ridden regularly for the past 20 yrs in fear and trepidation, and not one person made me feel hopeless. I wanted for myself to focus on braking and cornering – not having experienced this on road bikes before. The tips and techniques that I have been taught have been excellent. I knew there were a lot of other things I needed to learn, but they were my 2 primary objectives for the day, and I feel I learned a lot more than that. |
|
| |
Thank you so much to all the guys involved. I appreciate you all. |

Good Morning, |
|
| |
Yesterday, 14 Dec 05, I attended the Intermediate Course conducted at the Wilberforce Go-Kart track near Windsor. This was the 4th training session run by Stay Upright that I have attended and I am writing to congratulate you and you instructional staff for the excellent and highly professional manner in which your courses are conducted. |
|
| |
I was particularly impressed with the Intermediate Course I attended yesterday which was conducted in an atmosphere and at a venue totally conducive to acquiring safer and more effective riding skills. The obvious experience and credibility of your instructor made the learning easy and enjoyable and the pace of the instruction and the excellent, constructive feedback was outstanding. |
|
| |
I have over twenty years experience training and testing military heavy vehicle drivers and have some understanding of the requirements of effective driver training. From my experience at Stay Upright, I can say that the course content and instructional expertise is as good, if not better, than any I have ever seen. |
|
| |
I will certainly be returning for the advanced course and recommending your courses as widely as I can. |

Thanks for another excellent day! I think you could tell by the mile wide smiles on everyones face that Saturdays Corporate training" went over really well.
|
|
| |
I've received a lot of email this morning, and "face to face" messages, all asking that I pass on to you a "well done" for the advanced course. For example John said he had high expectations, but these were easily surpassed by what he learnt on the day. Kim said that it always surprises him how much he more learns every time he does the course. |
|
| |
Everyone went away having learnt something, and with improved skills. Personally I'm stoked at the improvement I found over the last time I did the course. Some are already talking of doing another next year (don't know if that'll be another corporate day, or your normal scheduled course) and three are planning for a "Cornering and Braking" course. On a personal note, I believe everyone should be doing this course as a pre-cursor to getting off the "P" plate to an open licence, or at least before being allowed to ride a bike above a certain power to weight ratio (ie "LAM's").
|
|
| |
Once again, thanks for the professionalism, the excellent instruction, and all the positive feedback during the day, well done!!
|
|
| |
Oh, and say thanks to Ted from Woollongong, if he's still around ;-) & pass on all our thanks to the two loverly "Flag Marshalls" and all the helpers.

Dear Manager, |
|
| |
I write to commend you and your staff at Stay Upright. |
|
| |
I went for both my L's and P's there. Although, it was about 5 months between the two courses, I distinctly remember the experience then and now. The delivery of both my instructors was clear, thorough and fun. I was fortunate to have Lachlan as my L's Instructor and Terry for my P's. I am a much better rider, a more confident rider and I will definately be using Terry's words during my 'commentary riding'. |
|
| |
Needless to say, it is so important to develop the best riding techniques in the beginning, thanks to my instructors I'm well equipped with this knowledge. |
|
| |
Both Terry and Lachlan have made the whole experience a pleasure (even when the pressure was on), and deserve some recognition for doing the job that they do, so well. Please pass my sincere thanks on to them, and let them know that the job that they are doing is appreciated. |
|
| |
I'll be back for the advanced riding course and I will be recommending friends to go there as well. |
|

Thank you and congratulations on a effective and fun learning environment! |

I would like to thank all the instructors who helped to improve my confidence and skills in the art of motorcycle riding. Days not only of learning but of fun. I have been riding on and off since 1969 and have always enjoyed riding. I always thought I was a reasonable rider and new my limits which I rarely exeeded. I had the oportunity to take part in both the Advanced course and the Cornering and Braking Course. Since the courses I have gained more confidence and am able to ride harder and safer without the dreaded all too common fear factor. I highly recommend these courses to all who ride motorcycles on the road. Never think you can't improve because the instructors might just prove you wrong!.

Hi Guys, |
|
| |
Just want to say thanks for an excellent day at the track last Friday (7/10/05). I originally wanted to do the course to feel safer on the road, but at the end of the day I got so much more! It was great that you could provide a safe environment for me to really test the limits of my bike and my ability. Before Friday I was a little scared in corners, but now I am so confident because I know what I am safely capable of. I also wanted to say that the instructors were top class and that as well as being very good teachers, they made sure that we all enjoyed ourselves as well. I am definately recommending this course to any bike rider I meet. |

Hi Guys, |
|
| |
Thought I'd drop you a line to thank you for the great training at the Advanced Course at Oran Park (7 Oct, 05). I thought the course was very professionally run but with a lot of humour and levity, making for an entertaining but more importantly a very educational day. My purpose for doing the course was to refresh my skills and knowledge after a 22 year absence from motorcycling. Well I am very pleased to say that I achieved much more than I had expected. After 8 hours practicing around the track I was a little exhausted but rode home with the biggest grin on the dial. Thanks again and I look forward to the Cornering & Braking course on the 17th Oct. |

Dear Mr Carter,
|
|

I recently attended a MOST training course at your Clyde/Granville centre. My instructor was Terry. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the School and, in particular, the instructing skills of Terry who took my course. He has that great ability to be able to communicate a fairly rigid training syllabus in an easy and practical way. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and learned a lot, and thought that you should know how highly Terry's group thought of him. |

Hello Stay Upright,
|
|
| |
I just wanted to send my thanks to my fantastic two trainers that helped me through both my Pre - Learner and Pre - Provisional Courses. Carston and Wayne, you guys are the best. Thank you so much for your patience (especially Carston when i arrived at the Pre - Learner and had absolutley no idea!), positive and encouraging attitudes (especially for Wayne when i was so nervous doing the MOST test) and above all your professionalism. These guys both did the greatest job and i hope you can pass my thanks on to them.

Steve Rothwell (Motorcycles Editor, CARSguideThe Cairns Post) re-learns how to ride a bike – properly this time – on a Stay Upright Motorcycle Techniques advanced riding course |
|
| |
As a mad-keen motorcyclist and long-time disciple of spirited riding, I thought I had built up a solid set of safe, quick riding skills. That was until I enrolled in a Stay Upright advanced course. Then the real learning began. I quickly discovered that good fortune, not superior riding skills, have kept me alive all these years – especially in light of the all-too frequent bike crashes around FNQ of late.
|
|
| |
During the course of a three hour theory session and a full eight hours of practical tuition at Mareeba’s Makotrac, instructors Max Thompson and superbike ace Wayne Clark unerringly pointed out areas of my riding that needed some serious overhauling. This is no classroom or punitive driving test folks. The Stay Upright guys are real pros – and fellow bikers - that are here to give vital tuition and feedback that’s designed to instil a systematic and safer approach to riding. |
|
| |
Having a Plan
|
|
| |
The Stay Upright system is all about developing a series of conditioned responses to real on-road situations - a hard-wired plan that delivers a suite of preventive and defensive riding techniques, culminating in the most appropriate reaction to all on-road hazards.
For example, I had wrongly assumed my emergency braking was up to scratch – yet when pressed to reveal exactly what I would do in a crisis other than mash the brakes, I had no real riding plan to fall back on. I quickly learned the importance of systematically ‘setting up and squeezing’ brakes in a variety of traffic situations – a strategy designed to transfer enough weight to the front tyre to ensure a clean, skid-free stop in the least possible distance. This I found to be especially useful as a precautionary measure when approaching intersections.Other safe riding strategies are less obvious, such as the practice of leaning from the waist into a turn to lower the overall C of G, and thus minimise the lean angle for any given cornering speed. Okay, we all know GP riders hang off to go quicker in turns and indeed most sportsbike riders do their best to ape these techniques – but it is surprising how much difference even a moderate upper-body lean can make to one’s lean angle through a turn.
Timing is crucial though. By shifting bodyweight at just the right moment, useful gains in cornering clearance can be made, and safer and faster riding achieved. |
|
| |
Putting Skills to Practice
|
|
| |
Many of these strategies we already know, but the whole point of doing a course such as this is to find out whether you’re really getting things right in practice. This is where the surprises start. For my part, I was told with great tact and humour that I wasn’t looking nearly far enough through corners, even though I thought I was. My arms were locked rigid to the handlebars, and I needed consistent reminding and reinforcement that a relaxed upper body is essential to leave room to manoeuvre; to allow for road imperfections and overall, for controlled and steady progress.
|
|
| |
I also learned for the first time how to consciously initiate sharp countersteered turns to avoid obstacles and by practicing this skill, became far more capable and comfortable about dodging the inevitable mid-bend lump of 4x2. My placement on the road became more accurate as a result of being conscious about countersteering. |
|
| |
I continued to soak up road placement revelations. I found out the right order of control inputs when braking for a turn; while in the turn and through the exit. As I tried one new skill after another, at times it seemed like learning how to ride all over again. Thankfully I was honest enough with myself to take on board the feedback and tuition from Max and Wayne, and to bin a wide range of personal assumptions about riding, and to replace them with a whole new set of skills.
|
|
| |
In practice, these sorts of measures can mean the difference between ‘heart in your mouth’ and ‘control in your hands.’ It’s all about being able to recognise and respond to road situations appropriately and properly. It’s not just about riding fast, but about riding consistently and intelligently with a good safety buffer up your sleeve so you can enjoy your riding more while being smoother, more controlled and relaxed.
|
|
| |
Tangible Benefits
|
|
| |
This is not so much a course as a vital part of your riding kit. After all, what’s the use of wearing top-notch kit and riding cutting-edge bikes if you can’t actually USE them properly?Incorporating these strategies into my daily riding has transformed my awareness, understanding and approach to riding. Now I am able to read the traffic better and react to its vagaries with a definite plan in mind. I am able to scratch around the ranges with more ease, relaxation and fun.
|
|
| |
In summary then, it is only by hard-wiring these strategies and skills into your daily riding that you will be sure to act the right way when you need to. When that do or die moment comes, the right tuition can make difference between a close shave and a personal apocalypse. There’s a lot more to riding bikes than cars and that’s a good thing. It gives us a depth of immersion and experience that’s incomparable. The flipside is that we need to improve our skills as much as possible in line with our vulnerability and our slender contact with the road. As motorcycling enthusiasts, we should embrace courses such as these for the great opportunities they present to add depth to our riding skills and make it safer for all, especially our Precious Pillions!
|
|
| |
I look forward to taking Stay Upright’s Cornering and Braking Course on the 24th of July, and hope to see many of the riders there that took the Advanced Course with me. Those who haven’t yet taken the Advanced Course – well it’s an absolute must for all road riders. |
|
| |
I dare say after my taking these courses, Cairns bike dealers will feel more comfortable about letting me loose with their new bikes. Then again, after what they’ve read here … |
|
| |
Oh, and kind thanks to Wayne Leonard for donating his bikes for the instructors to ride.
Go on, take up the challenge. I hope to see you at the track. |
